Increase traffic to your website thanks to Open Graph
Build trust with your audience. Use Open Graph tags!
Driving traffic to your website via social media has never been easier. Open Graph tags will help you decide what preview text appears for the URLs displayed on your profile. With them, you’ll be able to customise the descriptions, which will more effectively encourage your audience to visit your website.
What is Open Graph?
Open Graph are meta tags (code snippets included in the page’s head section) for social media. They have been part of the digital landscape for over 10 years now, and were originally intended to be used to integrate websites with Facebook.
With Open Graph, you can style the content displayed in URL previews to effectively encourage users to visit your website. This solution allows you to specify, amongst other things, the description, title and image displayed.
Links shared on social media using tags Open Graph gain better engagement with users. Posts that use them are more likely to be viewed and clicked on. Thanks to them you can generate more traffic to your website.
Types of tags in Open Graph
There are several types of Open Graph tags. The main ones include og:title, og:image and og:description. Each has a specific purpose, which generates the appropriate results.
Og:description
The tag contains a brief description, in which the content of the website is defined. It should not be long, but stand out for its originality.
Example:
Og:title
As the name suggests, og:title provides the page title. It is important that it is engaging, concise (up to 60 characters, and up to 40 characters for mobile) and briefly describes the website’s content.
Example:
Og:imagine
The next tag describes the image displayed in the URL preview. This is crucial, as it’s what most users pay the most attention to. The image should represent the product, service, property, or other item featured on the target page.
Example:
Og:url
This Open Graph tag informs the user about the destination page to which they will be redirected. It is important when the recipient is encountering the brand for the first time and has not yet developed trust in it.
Example:
Og:type
Og:type describes the type of content on the website. It informs the user about which type of page they will be redirected to. There are various options available. These include, amongst others: an article, a book, a company, an actor, a website, food etc..
