The full programme for the MCK and the festivals, all in one place

The Municipal Cultural Centre in Bydgoszcz approached us with a request to revamp its website and improve the user experience. The main aim of the project was to bring together, within a single website, events from all the centre’s sections and festivals, and to display them in the form of a well-organised calendar. The client was keen for the new website to be easy to read, particularly on mobile devices.

A clear programme of events at the MCK

Whilst developing the Centre’s programme, we prioritised functionality and clarity. To this end, we implemented a technical solution that displays a daily calendar by retrieving API data from the subpages of the MCK’s individual sections. As a result, the client saves time, as they do not need to enter new events manually.

The clarity of the programme subpage is down to the UI solutions we have implemented, which display API data clearly and organise the events themselves chronologically.

Designer online shop

MCK Bydgoszcz offers for sale publications books, music releases music releases as well as other merchandise related to the Centre. To meet the needs of the website, we have set up our own online shop. What is unusual about it? The shop on the website of the MCK does not feature the characteristic for e-commerce customer journey. The presentation of the offer is similar to that of standard online shops , however the the purchase process takes place without online payments.

Animation of the active WCAG

The WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) are essential for website design, thereby ensuring accessibility for older people and those with disabilities. This approach improves usability and removes barriers that may be encountered, for example, by users with visual impairments.

One of the requirements we had to meet when designing the website for the MCK was to ensure it complied with WCAG standards. The website is now available in a high-contrast version and with three different font sizes.

Expanded listings with contact details

Due to the Centre’s complex structure and the large number of sections under its remit, the website contains a great deal of contact information. To make it easier for users to find the right address, we have implemented expandable thematic listings. This approach significantly reduces the height of the contact page (particularly on mobile devices).

Solutions UX of the MCK programme

We have developed the MCK programme, which stands out for its intuitive search function for the Centre’s events. The UX solutions we have implemented allow users to freely select the time range for programme listings and to further filter results to one or more selected thematic categories. We have modelled the whole system on e-commerce listings, which makes it even easier to find specific information.

Integration of data via API

The MCK events programme brings together data from several sources in one place and organises the events chronologically. Integrating the website with the API required us to carry out backend work, as well as making modifications to the code of the external websites from which the data is retrieved, namely: Etniesy, Animocje, Kino Orzeł and ZPP Ostromecko.

Modularna struktura serwisu MCK Bydgoszcz w CMS

Modular structure of the website

We based the website design for the MCK on reusable sections, allowing visual elements to be expanded or contact details to be modified via the CMS in real time. In addition, we used the intuitive Gutenberg editor so that the Centre’s staff could easily make changes by following the dedicated guide we produced.
